Multi database systems
Multiple databases
A simple solution for diverse enterprises, corporate groups and subsidiaries.
Activa is firstly a multi-entity system and within a single database system it can handle any number of individual corporate entities whether they are group companies or entirely separate reporting corporations. Technically, this applies even if each corporation operates quite separately and autonomously.
However, there are four simple reasons why you might require a multi-database solution and these are;
However, there are four simple reasons why you might require a multi-database solution and these are;
- managing joint ventures with two or more joint venture partners
- material differences in tax electives or company reporting requirements between entities
- foreign subsidiaries or operations subject to different tax legislation, currency and/or different system regional settings and languages
- you simply want to maintain entirely separate databases for certain entities
The multiple database function is an option that can create one or more additional SQL databases using the original [System] database supplied with the software as a template. Theoretically, there is no real limit to the number of databases you can create except for the availability of hardware resources on the SQL server computer. There is also no time limitation for this. Databases can be added at any time.
If the original [System] database contains your particular configuration defaults, then this simple process clones the required format to create an identical, but slave, database.
This entire process is operated from within Activa software and permits the selection of different country settings for each new database, when required. The Microsoft SQL Server database collation setting is automatically adjusted for the country/language character set you select and there is no additional adjustment to be made for the Microsoft SQL Server installation except for the normal database administration tasks for backup.

In multi database systems, it is always important to avoid repetitive tasks wherever possible and Activa uses the System database as a master database for all other databases in each installation of the system.
By default, this becomes a single point of access for all users and contains all of the user accounts and security definitions. This also makes the task of administrating the system entirely centralised for the whole enterprise and therefore much more controllable.
Access to individual databases is controlled by allocating a Database Profile to each user as a component of the their Access Security Account.

Administration is further reduced by utilising the System database to record generic information and to manage global processes. This includes the following items;
- User Access Security
- User Function Profiles
- Activa Job Agent Scheduled Tasks
- Activa Job Maintenence Event Alerts
- FX Currency Tables
- Depreciation Master Templates
| Multi Database functionality is a standard system option and is a cost effective way to expand the deployment and utility of your asset management solution. |
| We have many of these systems in operation and would be happy to discuss your individual requirements with you. |
